Drug Peddler Arrested After Dramatic Chase in Bulawayo

‎Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Press and Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Cowdray Park in connection with unlawful possession and dealing in dangerous drugs following a dramatic police chase in Bulawayo.

‎The suspect, identified as Mbongeni Sibanda, was apprehended by the Zimbabwe Republic Police after acting on information received from members of the public.

‎The information led officers to the intersection of George Silundika Street and 1st Avenue, where a parked vehicle had drawn suspicion as young men were seen approaching it repeatedly.

‎Police officers then conducted surveillance to verify the illegal activity before moving in to make an arrest. However, upon noticing the police presence, the suspect fled the scene at high speed, prompting a pursuit.

‎Inspector Msebele said officers exercised caution during the chase, prioritizing public safety.

‎ “Our primary duty is to save lives. We could not risk innocent pedestrians being harmed during the pursuit,” she said.

‎The suspect reportedly attempted to evade arrest by hiding at various locations but later returned to the same area, allegedly driven by the intention to continue his illicit trade. The pursuit came to an end after the suspect was involved in a road traffic accident, leading to his arrest.

‎A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of dangerous substances, including Broncleer and Astrapain syrups, crystal meth, and equipment used for drug consumption.

‎The incident occurred during the Easter holiday, with police noting that while many citizens were enjoying the festive break, the suspect was engaged in illegal activities.

‎Inspector Msebele commended members of the public for their cooperation and urged continued support in reporting drug-related activities.

‎“We encourage members of the community to keep working with the police by providing information that helps us combat and eradicate drug abuse and trafficking,” she said

‎The arrest highlights the growing concern over drug-related activities in communities and the critical role played by public cooperation in combating crime.

‎Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining safety while handling suspects with caution to protect innocent lives.

‎Authorities continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as efforts intensify to curb drug abuse and trafficking in Bulawayo.
