Zimbabwe’s biggest Mental Health Institution, Ingutsheni Central Hospital has received groceries worth approximately 990 United States dollars from anonymous donors, on a day it was facing a food crisis.
“Some anonymous donors gave us over 1000kg of mealie-meal. The government funds have also come through”, said CEO and Chief Medical Director for Ingutsheni Doctor Namache Mawere.
“Ingutsheni Mental Hospital relies on government and donor funding. Patients do not pay any amount to be treated here so most of the times we find ourselves struggling to stay afloat that is why there are food shortages at the institution”, he added.
Ingutsheni Mental Health Institution is located in the Belmont Industrial sites area of the city of Bulawayo. It caters for over 700 patients a day.
Mawere also told Zim GBC News that the groceries received from anonymous donors will ease the food crisis at the Institution for only a week.
“We are calling out other well wishers to chip in because the challenges we are facing are far too many”, said Mawere.
“Regular donations are better in liaison with our offices. We want to be proactive not reactive. We also need assistance with our projects so we are self sufficient” he added
