Zimbabwe has recorded major progress on key energy, housing, and infrastructure projects during the first 100-day cycle of 2026, with several power plants and bridges nearing completion.
In presence of the Cabinet, Ministers presented the latest updates of projects under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2).
Minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo reported significant advances in thermal and solar power plants across the country.
“A 235 MW thermal power plant in Hwange has reached 50% of its 75% target for this cycle, a 210 MW plant in Chegutu is now 45% complete”, he said.
Minister Moyo further highlighted that, a thermal power plant in Beitbridge is 90% finished, with structural and mechanical works ongoing.
“The first phase of the 20 MW Dinson Thermal Power Plant, using coke oven gas in Hwange is now complete”.
Several smaller projects are expected to be finished by the end of this cycle, including the Mahlahlandela Government Complex LED lights in Bulawayo (80% done) and Zendele Primary School solar project in Gwanda.
Other small projects include, Mbuyamaswa Institutions grid extension in Zaka, the 7.5 MW Eureka Solar Power Plant in Guruve transformer monitoring systems nationwide and Ruwa Liquid Petroleum Gas Phase 2 and a biogas digester in Goromonzi.
Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Hon. Paul Mavima reported that the Marondera Dombotombo flats and the Mutawatawa Waiting Mothers Shelter in Mashonaland East are almost done.
“The Beitbridge Redevelopment Housing Project Phase 1 and refurbishment of 34 houses near the Independence Day celebrations venue are nearing completion”, he said.
He further noted that the construction at the Makonde Heights Housing Development in Mashonaland West is underway.
Minister Lovemore Matuke, in charge of National Security, gave updates on rural infrastructure.
- Chadzire Bridge in Buhera, one deck is 40% complete.
- Mabori Bridge in Mberengwa, deck protection works are 30% done.
- Makugwe Bridge in Mwenezi, one deck is 30% complete.
“On water and food security, the Ntunugwe Piped Water Scheme in Bulilima and the Manama Piped Water Scheme in Gwanda are almost complete”.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Torerayi Moyo reported that Gwanda State University Agro-Innovation Centre is 88% complete, the Muzarabani Masawu Value Addition Plant (run by Bindura State University) is also 95% finished.
He further highlighted that, a male hostel block at Bindura State University is 50% done with other ongoing projects including construction of a National Satellite Communication Centre.
At the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School in Kwekwe, 38% of 150 trainees have been certified in skills like bricklaying, carpentry, welding and plastering under an outreach programme.
The Cabinet noted the reports and the progress is on track across all pillars of the national development strategy.
