A routine customs inspection at Plumtree Border Post has led to the interception of a concealed and undeclared firearm.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority said,

“A routine customs inspection yesterday led to the discovery of a concealed and undeclared firearm hidden in a traveller’s suitcase at the Plumtree Border Post.”

The interception has been attributed to the alertness and professionalism of customs officers.

“This interception underscores the vigilance and professionalism of ZIMRA officers,” the statement said, adding that officers play a critical role in safeguarding our borders.

Authorities noted that the swift response by the team prevented a potential security threat.

“The team’s decisive action halted the illegal movement of the firearm,” the statement read.

The impact of the interception extends beyond the border post itself. According to the statement,

“The interception directly protected communities and reinforced the safety and security of civil society.”

Meanwhile, travellers have been reminded of their legal obligations when crossing borders.

“All travellers are legally required to declare all goods in their possession at the border,” the authority said.

It is emphasised that adherence to regulations is key to smooth operations.

“Compliance is essential for lawful and efficient cross-border movement,” ZIMRA added.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by border authorities to maintain security and enforce customs regulations.
