‘I Never Asked To Be Born’: 21-Year-Old Refuses to Work, Sparks Parenting Debate

Zim GBC News | IT’S A BIZARRE WORLD

A 21-year-old man has ignited a global firestorm after declaring he refuses to work because he was brought into the world without his consent—and the internet is sharply divided on whether he is a philosophical genius or simply delusional.

The young man, whose identity remains unknown, argues that since he never asked to be born, his parents are obligated to support him financially for as long as he needs. His reasoning has drawn millions of reactions across social media platforms.

“I refuse to work because I was born without my consent,” he stated.

“My parents made the decision to have me, so the responsibility lies entirely with them. Why should I be forced to work for a life I never asked for?”

Critics have called him immature, entitled, and a symbol of everything wrong with younger generations. They argue that personal responsibility begins at adulthood, regardless of the circumstances of birth.

Supporters, however, see his words as an uncomfortably logical critique of a society that expects blind compliance with the cycle of labour.

But the debate has taken a darker turn, particularly among African parents who see the young man’s stance as a symptom of a deeper cultural rot—the erosion of ubuntu and respect for elders.

One furious mother did not mince words in her response.

“Then get a rope and hang him,” she said bluntly.

“Tell him that since you brought him to the world, it is now enough—you are removing him.”

Her shocking comment reflects a growing frustration among parents who feel that modern notions of rights have poisoned the relationship between generations.

“The issue of rights is eroding ubuntu,” another parent weighed in.

“Children are no longer listening to chastisement. They stand head to head challenging their parents. In our culture, that was unheard of.”

Others pointed fingers squarely at mothers, accusing them of raising a generation incapable of resilience.

“It is unfortunate that nowadays mothers are to blame for this kind of raised generation,” one commentator said.

“How does a parent with five senses buy a seven-year-old the latest iPhone? We are creating monsters and then wondering why they refuse to work at 21.”

The debate has also highlighted concerns about the role of the internet in shaping young minds. Parents argue that children now consume vast amounts of information online and mistake what they see for practical reality.

“There is too much information from the internet,” another user observed.

“Children think that what is said or found on the net is how life is actually lived practically. They watch Western influencers and want to copy their lifestyles without understanding the context.”

Whether the 21-year-old is a genius asking profound questions about consent and existence, or simply a young man refusing to grow up, one thing is clear—his words have touched a raw nerve in households across the globe.
