Zimbabwean dancehall artist Poptain has announced that he has removed his popular track Fadza Mutengi from all digital platforms, saying he is detaching himself from both the song and its original message.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, the multi-talented performer said the decision marked a significant personal step.

“I am writing to share some thoughts regarding the message behind my, actually your song, Fadza Mutengi,” he wrote.

The musician, whose real name is Ameen Jahliel Matanga, said he had poured deep emotion into creating the track but felt his perspective had since evolved.

“As an artist, my perspective often evolves, and I want to encourage you to find your own personal meaning in the music rather than viewing it solely through the lens of my original intent,” he said.

He added that he was currently detaching himself from the specific message conveyed in the song and would be removing himself from both its creation and any associated benefits with immediate effect.

The artist suggested that the song had weighed heavily on him personally.

“Family, you probably have no idea how this song has enslaved me, but thanks to my creator, I am finally free by letting go,” he wrote.

While he did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind his decision, the statement appeared to frame the move as a form of emotional and spiritual release.

The announcement has sparked discussion among fans on social media, with some expressing support for his decision and others questioning the future availability of one of his well-known tracks.

Fadza Mutengi had become one of the songs closely associated with the Zimdancehall star, contributing to his growing profile in Zimbabwe’s urban music scene.

The removal of the track highlights the complex relationship artists can have with their own work, particularly when personal beliefs or perspectives shift over time.

It remains unclear whether the song will return to streaming platforms in the future or whether the decision is permanent.

For now, the artist says he is choosing what he describes as freedom and inviting listeners to interpret his music in their own way.
