KWEKWE – In a stark ruling underscoring the judiciary’s firm stance on sexual crimes against minors, a 20-year-old Kwekwe woman has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for the aggravated indecent assault of a 12-year-old boy.

The Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court handed down the sentence this week, following a harrowing incident detailed by prosecutors.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offence occurred on the evening of 14 January 2026.

“The facts are that on the 14th of January, around 8 PM, the convicted woman was with the 12-year-old juvenile at a house in Kwekwe,” a representative from the NPA stated.

“She proceeded to watch pornographic content on her mobile phone with the minor, which set the stage for the subsequent abuse.”

The court heard that after watching the videos, the woman, who is not related to the victim, undressed and instructed the boy to do the same. She then had sexual intercourse with him.

“The law is unequivocal. A child of 12 years is legally incapable of consenting to any sexual act,” the prosecution emphasized during proceedings.

“This was a severe breach of trust and a criminal exploitation of a child.”

The case was exposed after the traumatised boy confided in his mother, who immediately reported the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, leading to the woman’s arrest.

Magistrate Honorable Linda Chikukwa, presiding over the case, highlighted the gravity of the offence and the need for a sentence that reflects societal condemnation and acts as a deterrent.

“This court has a duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society, our children. Such predatory behaviour cannot be tolerated,” the Magistrate was quoted as saying in court records.

The 15-year effective prison term removes the possibility of a fine, signalling the court’s zero-tolerance approach to sexual offences against minors.
