A Bulawayo Magistrates Court has sentenced three young men over a violent robbery that occurred on Christmas night in Montgomery, Umguza.
Respect Ncube, also known as Hlonipani (22), was found guilty and sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 6 months suspended for 5 years. In addition, the court ordered restitution of US$110, representing the total value of items stolen.
The case involved Clive Sibanda (19) and Zithelo Mpofu (20), who were also implicated in the robbery of Ganizani Msimanga (27) on 25 December 2025.
The court heard that Msimanga was walking home from shops along Rosetta Road when he was tripped by the accused, assaulted with a thorn tree branch, and stabbed once on the left thigh.
The assailants allegedly stole his Itel cellphone, national identity card, and US$50 in cash, totaling US$110.
The complainant reported the incident to police, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. The court determined that the accused acted unlawfully, and the sentencing reflects both the violent nature of the crime and the restitution owed to the victim.
