A significant internal rift within ZANU-PF has been thrust into the open after the party’s Youth League Deputy National Commissar, Taurai Kandishaya, publicly attacked Presidential Special Advisor Paul Tungwarara, accusing him of causing confusion and overstepping his mandate.
In a fiery Facebook post, Kandishaya questioned Tungwarara’s recent political manoeuvring and his effectiveness in his primary role as an investment advisor.
“After watching yesterday’s Nyanga rally, I had to ask myself, as a commissar, who Paul Tungwarara really is,” Kandishaya wrote.
“Does he know we’re in recruitment mode? I had to check the last time he brought investors into the country, as per his mandate.”
Kandishaya suggested that Tungwarara’s foray into domestic party politics was a diversion from failed investment duties.
“Seems like investors lost trust in him, hence this rush to wield some internal power so as to solidify name‑dropping in the UAE,” he alleged.
He directly challenged Tungwarara’s engagement in Manicaland, questioning his territorial scope.
“Where is he taking the script to cause confusion and disruption in the party? Was he not Appointed Presidential Investment Advisor to the United Arab Emirates ONLY and Manicaland is not part of the UAE. Is it?”
The youth league commissar issued three pointed recommendations:
- Immediate Ideological Training: “I recommend Herbert Chitepo School Of Ideology for him asap.”
- A “Repair Rally”: “I propose a Repair Rally in Nyanga to clear confusion among our loyal party members.”
- Relinquish Title: “It’s time he relinquishes the advisor title so that politicians engage him without feeling like they’re challenging President ED Mnangagwa.”
Kandishaya also cast suspicion on Tungwarara’s past claim of having neutralized attacks on the President by disgraced war veteran Blessed Geza.
“As he claimed to have handled, mastered, and neutralized Blessed Geza does that mean he was part of Geza?… This is purely Selous Scout mode of operation,” he wrote, invoking the controversial colonial-era military unit.
The public rebuke from a senior youth league figure signals deepening factional tensions and sets the stage for a potential confrontation over influence, mandate, and party discipline within the ruling party.
