Popular Zimdancehall musician Shinsoman has been arrested in Harare for allegedly violating the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act (MASCA).
Shinsoman, whose real name is Tinashe Romeo Anthony, is a prominent Zimbabwean reggae-dancehall artist known as the “Dancehall Father” for his husky voice, energetic stage presence, and hits like “Mawayawaya” and “Ndakupenga,” breaking ground by performing with a live band and becoming a major force in the Zimdancehall genre since rising to fame in 2013.
He won the Best Song of the Year award for “Mawaya waya” at the 2013 Zim Dancehall Awards.
It is his unique husky voice that had made him a force to reckon with the tightly contested Zim dancehall genre.
Shinsoman broke new ground by becoming one of the few dancehall chanters to sing alongside a live band. He unveiled his band in March 2014.
He was taken into custody by detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit and is currently detained at Harare Central Police Station.
The arrest, reported by H-Metro, has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s music and entertainment circles. While specific details of the alleged violation have not been disclosed, the charge relates to the illegal possession, sale, or distribution of controlled pharmaceutical substances or narcotics.
