BULAWAYO – A 27-year-old man, John Mudhanisi appeared before the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court facing charges of theft of trust property after he allegedly sold a client’s vehicle entrusted to him for repairs and resale, and vanished with the proceeds.

According to the court case, the complainant, Patricia Wamambo (29) from Kingsdale, handed over her yellow Nissan March to Mudhanisi in January 2025.

The agreement was that he would repair the vehicle and advertise it for sale, with proceeds to be returned to her

However, the prosecution further states that Mudhanisi sold the vehicle to an unidentified buyer and converted the full amount, valued at US$1,800 to his personal use.

To cover his tracks, he allegedly returned with a beige Toyota Raum, claiming he had made a swap and top deal. He then disappeared with that vehicle as well.

Wamambo later discovered that Mudhanisi had changed his residence and was no longer reachable through the phone, prompting her to file a police report.

Mudhanisi has been charged under Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] for theft of trust property. He remains in custody as the case continues.

Nothing was recovered and the matter has been remanded with further proceedings.

As this case unfolds, it is a warning to both service providers and the public to formalize transactions and report suspicious behavior early.
