The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Anymore Zvitsva, the alleged serial murderer linked to a wave of violent killings in the Guruve district.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated that the suspect was apprehended this Saturday by members of the Zimbabwe National Army while hiding in a garden in the Guruve area, culminating an extensive joint manhunt.
Zvitsva is reportedly connected to more than 20 murder cases in the district since November last year, including the killing of five members of the same family in December.
The crimes had raised serious security concerns within the community.
Shockingly, the suspect displayed a chilling lack of remorse upon arrest. According to sources close to the investigation, Zvitsva remarked,
“ndaitoseka hangu kuti ndaziikanwa sei kuti ndauraya vanhu 5,” (“I was just laughing, wondering how they knew I was the one who killed the 5 people.”).
Commissioner Nyathi confirmed the arrest, stating,
“The suspect was apprehended this Saturday by members of the Zimbabwe National Army while hiding in a garden in the Guruve area.”
He added that further information on the suspect’s formal charges and court proceedings would be released in due course.
The arrest brings a measure of relief to the Guruve community, which has been gripped by fear for months.
The ZRP has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
