Figtree, Matabeleland South – A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a disturbing incident in which two goats died after he allegedly sexually assaulted them and a third goat on Christmas Day, police and local sources have confirmed.
The incident occurred at Cliffton Farm, where the suspect, Tyson Mketa, was reportedly discovered by the livestock owner, Dione Sibanda (56), late on December 25.
According to preliminary reports, Sibanda was alerted around 10 PM by the persistent, distressed bleating of her goats. Upon investigating with a torch, she allegedly found Mketa partially naked and in the act of assaulting one of the female goats inside the pen.
“I heard my goats crying out in a strange way, not their normal sound,” Sibanda told authorities.
“When I went to check, I found him there, in the pen, with the animals. It was a shocking and horrible sight. Two of my goats were already dead.”
Police reports indicate that Mketa is alleged to have assaulted three goats in total. The two fatalities are suspected to have been caused by exhaustion and physical trauma sustained during the acts.
Local authorities confirmed the arrest and that Mketa is currently in custody. He is expected to be charged under the country’s laws pertaining to animal cruelty and bestiality, which carry severe penalties.
“This is a deeply troubling and unusual case that has shaken our community,” said a local community policing forum representative who requested anonymity.
“We are cooperating fully with the police in their investigation.”
The surviving goat is reportedly under veterinary care. The case has sent shockwaves through the quiet Figtree farming community, casting a dark shadow over the festive period.
