BULAWAYO – Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo have confirmed they are investigating two separate murders and a vicious attempted murder that occurred within a devastating 48-hour period across the city, marking a violent start to the festive season.

In the first incident, police were called to the corner of 8th Avenue Extension and Lobengula Street, near Manor Hotel, on Monday night at around 7:40 PM. A passerby had discovered a man lying in the middle of the road, bleeding profusely. Despite attempts to render first aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries before medical help arrived.

“The police found the now deceased lying lifeless with a stab wound,” said Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Bulawayo Press and Public Relations Officer.

The victim, aged 25 from Ross Camp, was described as wearing a red t-shirt, white striped shirt, black jeans, a black cap, and white tennis shoes. His body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for post-mortem.

In a second, unrelated homicide earlier on Monday, the body of 38-year-old herd boy Agrippa Ncube was discovered in a bushy area between Methodist Village and Magwegwe North. Investigations revealed Ncube had been involved in a dispute over grazing land boundaries with an unidentified man shortly before his death.

“The now deceased was found… with a deep cut on the left side of the head, above the left eye,” stated Inspector Msebele.

“The two were refrained and went their separate ways, with the now deceased going to check for some of his cattle… and was later on found dead.”

In a third case of extreme violence, two brothers who are vendors at Emganwini Shops were attacked on Sunday night following a dispute over change. Two men who had bought drinks and cigarettes allegedly turned violent, striking the elder brother, 24, with a brick before stabbing the younger brother, 22, twice.

“A misunderstanding arose over the issue of change,” Inspector Msebele confirmed.

“One of the accused persons hit the elder brother with a brick once on the head… His young brother intervened… and was stabbed with an unknown sharp object.”

The assailants fled the scene in their vehicle. Police are appealing for information to locate them.

In a stern warning to the public, Inspector Msebele urged peaceful conflict resolution.

“We urge members of the public not to take the law into their own hand but try and find amicable ways of solving their disputes as resorting to violence leads to unnecessary loss of lives.”

Authorities have asked anyone with a missing relative matching the description of the first victim to visit Bulawayo Central Police Station or their nearest station for identification.

Anyone with information on the Emganwini attack is also urged to come forward.
