The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over a disturbing rise in murder cases taking place at beer drinking sites across the country, where minor disputes are increasingly turning fatal.

In a press statement, Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi gave detail of five separate murder incidents that occurred between 1 and 7 December 2025.

In the first case, Taurai Hungwe (29) was stabbed in the chest with an okapi knife by a suspect identified only as Prosper during an altercation at a night club in Beitbridge.

“Hungwe succumbed to his injuries on 3 December at Beitbridge District Hospital. The suspect remains at large”, said Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Another incident encountered on 4 December when Kudakwashe Mudyanevana (27) was fatally struck on the head with an axe by a suspect known as Tshuks at Claremont Business Centre, Fort Rixon.

“The suspect, with four accomplices reportedly attacked patrons at a bottle store before killing Mudyanevana. The group is still being sought by police”.

Leonard Chidhoma (45) was also killed on 5 December in Battlefields after being accused of spreading false rumours. He was attacked while drinking at Chibhawabhwawa and his lifeless body was discovered the following day.

Meanwhile in Bulawayo, Mongiwethu Godnows Dube (26) was murdered on 7 December after confronting Keith Dube over a previous beer-splashing incident during a snooker game in Magwegwe North.

The same day, Richard Sibanda (52) died after being repeatedly struck on the head with a stone by Tinotenda Gibson Madanhire (26) at a funeral in Lower Gweru. The two had reportedly been drinking together before the altercation. Madanhire has since been arrested.

Commissioner Nyathi has urged the public to exercise restraint and resolve disputes peacefully.

“We appeal to the public to promote responsible behaviour and promptly report any suspicious or unruly conduct,” he said.
