Zimbabwe’s 2025 sporting calendar was marked by an impressive series of cycling and multisport events that drew athletes, enthusiasts, and spectators from across the country and beyond.
From road racing to mountain biking and triathlon challenges, the year highlighted the nation’s growing enthusiasm for endurance sports and its commitment to promoting fitness and tourism.
The National Road Championships, held from April 24–26, 2025, featured both the Individual Time Trial (ITT) and Individual Road Race (IRR) in multiple categories. In the Men’s Elite division, Matthew Denslow claimed victory in the Road Race, while George Ascott took the Time Trial title, underscoring the depth of local cycling talent.
Around the same time, Harare hosted the CAC BMX Racing Championships at Bike Addict, attracting participants from across Africa, including South Africa and the Central African Republic. The event provided a strong platform for young riders to test their skills in a competitive regional setting.
In July, attention shifted north to Victoria Falls for the Zambezi Cycle Challenge, held from July 11–13, 2025. This popular multi-stage mountain biking event combined sport with conservation, raising funds for environmental initiatives while offering breathtaking routes along the Zambezi River.
The event brought together serious competitors and casual “social riders” in a spirited display of endurance and adventure.
Later in the year, the Kasambabezi Binga Marathon on September 27, 2025, introduced a 50km cycling component alongside running races. The event helped promote tourism and fitness in the Binga region, expanding the reach of cycling to new communities.
Mountain biking remained a strong focus throughout the year, with the National Mountain Bike Championships taking place at various venues.
The Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) events were held in April, followed by the Cross-Country Short Circuit (XCC) Women Elite race on October 4, 2025, and the Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) scheduled for December 6, 2025, in Harare.
Falcon College successfully hosted several of the MTB national championship stages, reinforcing its reputation as a top venue for off-road cycling.
The year is set to conclude with an exciting series of multisport competitions organized by the Zimbabwe Triathlon Association. These include the iGo Corporate Challenge #1 on November 23, the Bike/Run Time Trials on November 30, and the Smallbridge Dam Penhalonga Triathlon & Multisport Event on December 6–7, 2025.
From elite road racers to recreational riders and triathletes, Zimbabwe’s 2025 calendar reflected a vibrant and growing sporting culture.
The combination of competitive racing, community events, and conservation-driven initiatives underscored the country’s commitment to promoting health, talent, and tourism through sport.
