Zimbabwe is embarking on a major technological transformation with its newly approved National AI Strategy (2026-2030).
This plan is a key part of the broader “Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Masterplan,” and its goal is to use artificial intelligence to boost the economy and improve services for its people.
The government’s vision is to use AI to build a more efficient and innovative nation. As President Emmerson Mnangagwa put it, this strategy is about “positioning Zimbabwe as a leader in technological advancement in Africa.”
A major focus is on teamwork with the private sector. The government is calling on businesses to lead the charge in creating new AI tools.
“The future of our economy lies in collaboration with the private sector,” said Minister of Information Communication Technology.
He believes that by working together, they can develop solutions for local problems that could also make a global impact.
Alongside the national AI push, digital agriculture is set to modernize Zimbabwe’s farming industry. Since agriculture is vital to the country’s economy, using AI and digital tools can lead to bigger harvests and more sustainable practices.
Farmers are increasingly adopting data-driven methods.
“Digital agriculture is not just a trend; it’s a necessity,” explains agricultural scientist .
“With AI, we can forecast weather, use resources like water and fertilizer more wisely, and significantly increase how much we grow.”
The powerful combination of AI and agriculture is expected to be a significant engine for economic growth. As the government supports these digital innovations, the benefits are likely to spread to other critical areas like healthcare, education and transport.
“AI can streamline processes and reduce inefficiencies,” stated an economist . “This strategy is about creating a more inclusive economy where technology benefits everyone.”
Zimbabwe’s future looks bright as it moves forward with this dual focus on AI and digital farming. The essential partnership between the government and private companies will help create a thriving environment for new ideas.
In short, Zimbabwe’s new AI Strategy and its focus on digital farming mark a major step into the modern era. Through determination and collaboration, the nation is poised to turn its challenges into opportunities, paving the way for a more prosperous future.
