BULAWAYO – A 38-year-old woman from Umguza, Dalithemba Ndlovu, has appeared before the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of theft after she allegedly stole a cellphone from a 24-year-old man of Pumula East.

The incident took place on 10 October 2025 at Costham Trading. According to court’s case, Ndlovu was inside the store allegedly shopping for lunchboxes when she stole an M1 cellphone belonging to the complainant, Beven Munkuli (24), from his pocket.

She was captured on CCTV committing the offence and leaving the premises. The footage led to her arrest by police.

The stolen phone, valued at US$150, was recovered in full. Ndlovu is now facing theft charges as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].

As this case unfolds, it highlights the growing importance of surveillance technology like CCTV in solving petty crimes such as theft.

It also underscores the need for personal vigilance in public spaces, especially in busy commercial areas. Additionally, it also shows that even minor thefts are taken seriously by law enforcement and the justice system in Zimbabwe.
