The City of Bulawayo is celebrating a significant milestone in its economic development journey with the successful completion of the first phase of the MSME Trade Hub at the Dougmore Offices.
This initiative, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to empower Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and stimulate local economic growth.
Mr Christopher Dube, Town Clerk of Bulawayo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the UNDP for their generous support, emphasizing the importance of the Trade Hub in bolstering the city’s economic landscape.
“This initiative is a cornerstone of our strategy to empower small businesses and stimulate local economic development,”
said Dube.
The Dougmore Offices are now fully operational, equipped with essential furniture, and ready to support local entrepreneurs.
The city has allocated funds in its upcoming budget to complete additional fittings, ensuring the facility meets high standards.
With the foundation now firmly in place, Bulawayo is poised to embark on the second phase of the project: equipping the Hub with crucial Information Technology resources.
The immediate priority is the procurement of laptops, which are vital for staff collaboration and effective service delivery to the MSMEs.
Dube noted,
“We are confident that this next step will maximize the Hub’s impact, allowing for seamless collaboration between teams at the Dougmore Offices and the Tower Block head office.”
As the City of Bulawayo moves forward in partnership with the UNDP, there is a shared vision of creating a more prosperous future for the community.
Local leaders are optimistic about the potential of the MSME Trade Hub to drive innovation, create jobs, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the region.
The city’s commitment to empowering SMEs reflects a broader strategy aimed at fostering sustainable development and ensuring that local businesses thrive in a competitive environment.
The successful collaboration with the UNDP is a testament to what can be achieved through strategic partnerships focused on community growth.
