Bulawayo – A 29-year-old mine worker, Brandon Ndlovu, appeared before the Bulawayo Regional Court facing counts of rape after he allegedly attacked a 64-year-old woman in Matopo.
Ndlovu, who is employed at Esikhoni Mine in Matopo, is accused of assaulting Irene Sinyoro (64) of Kuthula village on an incident that took place on the evening of 1 July 2025
According to the court’s case, the alleged attack took place at around 7PM at the Good Enough Mine turn-off. Ndlovu allegedly called Sinyoro over to where he was, before dragging her into a bushy area.
“He threatened to kill her if she resisted, ordering her to remove her clothes, and then raped her twice”.
The prosecution further states that after the first assault, the accused ordered the complainant into a car, where he allegedly proceeded to rape her twice more without her consent.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Brendon Ndlovu.
The case being under Magistrate Taurai Manuwere, in both counts it is stated that the accused person acted unlawfully as defined in Section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
The case underscores the vulnerability of elderly women to sexual assault and the need for targeted protection.
