ZESA Holdings has announced that Hwange Unit 8 has been temporarily taken off the national grid following a technical fault.

According to an official press statement released by the power utility’s Stakeholder Relations Office on 20 October 2025 , the unit will remain out of service for approximately 10 days while restoration and repair work is carried out.

Despite this outage, Hwange Unit 7 remains operational, generating 335 megawatts (MW) to help maintain system stability. Additionally, generation at Kariba South Power Station has been ramped up, with ZESA carefully managing water allocations to offset the shortfall in power supply.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said ZESA, assuring the public that efforts are being made to restore the unit as quickly and safely as possible.

ZESA has urged stakeholders and consumers to bear with the temporary disruption and promised regular updates on progress as the restoration work continues.
