BULAWAYO – A 25-year-old man from Siphepha, Mthandazo Ncube has been convicted of attempted murder after assaulting his neighbour during a heated dispute over a residential stand space.
Ncube appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Taurai Manuwere, where he faced charges from an incident that occurred on 19 June 2025.
According to the court’s case, Ncube struck the complainant at the back of the head with a stick during an argument over land boundaries.
“He allegedly attacked his neighbour in an aggressive manner after the disagreement over a stand space”.
In delivering sentence, Magistrate Manuwere described the offense as extremely serious, as it led to lasting harm suffered by the victim.
“The assault resulted in permanent disability, the complainant now struggles with speech, hearing, and suffers weakness on the left side of his body,” said Manuwere.
Ncube was convicted under Section 189 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23], which criminalises attempted murder.
The Magistrate added that such crimes warranted sentences, carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Ncube was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years suspended on the condition that he does not commit any violent offence during that period.
