A devastating gas tank explosion occurred in rural Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West, on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a 3-year-old boy and injuring three others. The incident happened when a handyman attempted to fix a gas tank near an open fire, unaware of the danger it posed.
ZRP Confirms Arrest and Investigation
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
“The ZRP is investigating a case of culpable homicide which occurred in Kenzamba, Chinhoyi, on October 7, 2025. A 45-year-old man allegedly attempted to fix a gas tank while seated close to an open fire,” said Nyathi.
Details of the Incident
Nyathi revealed that upon opening the gas tank, it exploded, causing serious burns to four individuals, including the suspect.
Tragically, one of the victims, the 3-year-old boy, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
Arrest and Investigation
The 45-year-old suspect has been arrested for culpable homicide. The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
