Botswana to Launch Citizenship-by-Investment Programme in 2026

GABORONE – In a strategic move to attract foreign capital and stimulate population growth, Botswana has announced it will launch a formal citizenship-by-investment programme starting in 2026.

According to the new policy, individuals can obtain Botswana citizenship by making an investment ranging between US$75,000 and US$90,000.

The initiative is designed to boost the nation’s financial inflows and strengthen its economic standing.

This new programme expands upon Botswana’s existing Investment Visa framework, which already allows investors to secure a five-year stay for business purposes through the country’s immigration offices and diplomatic missions abroad.

Analysts see the move as a deliberate effort by the southern African nation to position itself as a more competitive hub for international investment, joining a growing number of countries offering similar pathways to citizenship.

The government anticipates that the programme will not only provide a direct economic boost but also encourage long-term business development and demographic diversification.
