BULAWAYO – A 29-year-old man from Old Magwegwe, Brighton Dube, appeared before the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court facing charges of raping his ex-wife after allegedly breaking into her home and finding her with another man.
The alleged incident took place on the night of 26 July 2025, when Dube, accompanied by a friend, went to his ex-wife’s homestead. They broke in through the window and entered the house uninvited.
According to the state’s case, Dube found his ex-wife in bed with her boyfriend. Upon being discovered, the boyfriend fled the scene, with Dube’s friend chasing after him, leaving Dube alone in the house with the complainant.
“Dube allegedly ordered the children into the sitting room, took the complainant to the kitchen, and proceeded to have sexual intercourse with her without her consent”.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest. He was remanded in custody with pending further court proceedings.
As the case unfolds, it has raised concerns about domestic violence and the abuse of power in intimate relationships. It underscores the vulnerability of women even after separation, where boundaries and consent must still be respected.
