BULAWAYO – The Zimbabwe International Exhibition and Conference Smart City (ZIECS) is a hive of activity this week as the city hosts the prestigious twin expos, Mine Entra 2025 and AfriConfex 2025, set to reinforce the nation’s status as a regional hub for industry and innovation.

Running concurrently from Wednesday to Friday, the events have attracted hundreds of local and international exhibitors and delegates, with over 240 direct exhibitors confirmed. Four nations—China, India, South Africa, and the United Kingdom—are represented by 14 direct exhibitors, signalling robust global investor confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic landscape.

President Mnangagwa is scheduled to officially open Mine Entra 2025 on Thursday, while the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Honourable Felix Mhona, will preside over the AfriConfex opening on Wednesday.

ZITF Company marketing and corporate communications manager, Mr. Thandolwenkosi Nkomo, confirmed that setup was proceeding smoothly.

“We have been working closely with exhibitors to help them set up stands since last week,” Mr. Nkomo said.

“The exhibition area is getting busier as we approach Wednesday, and we expect all stands to be ready for day one.”

The expos, which feature sectors from heavy engineering and logistics to finance and research, were strategically merged this year to create powerful synergies. ZITF Company CEO, Dr. Nicholas Ndebele, explained the rationale behind the combined event.

“The decision to merge the two expos was driven by scheduling constraints, but it also allows us to align two highly complementary sectors — mining and infrastructure development,” said Dr. Ndebele.

Mine Entra 2025, themed “Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining,” will spotlight sustainability, technology, and investment in the mining sector. Its counterpart, AfriConfex 2025, under the theme “Smart Moves: Powering Zimbabwe’s Infrastructure Evolution,” will gather experts to deliberate on climate-resilient infrastructure and modernising the country’s road, energy, and water systems in line with Vision 2030.

The convergence of these key industries highlights Zimbabwe’s ongoing drive in mineral beneficiation and massive infrastructure investment, positioning the twin expos as a premier platform for networking, forging partnerships, and driving knowledge exchange.
