In a country where load-shedding is a daily reality and the cost of living is always top of mind, a new gadget from Logitech is turning heads, they’ve just launched a keyboard that tackles two major headaches for the Zimbabwean user, power cuts and the high cost of replacing broken electronics.

This isn’t just any keyboard it’s a solar-powered repairable device that could change how we work and help our pockets and the planet.

Imagine your keyboard charging while you work near a window or even under your room’s light bulb during a late night work session. Logitech’s new keyboard does exactly that. Its built-in solar panels soak up any light, meaning you’ll never have to panic during a marathon load shedding session or waste money on expensive batteries.

“It saves money and planet, no more buying and throwing away batteries, which saves you cash and stops harmful chemicals from ending up in our dump sites,” stated the community member (Bulawayo).

As long as there’s some light, you can work. This is a game changer for remote workers, students and anyone trying to meet a deadline when ZESA is off.

However it also has it’s flip side for instance if you’re working in a dimly lit room or have a power cut at night with no backup light, the keyboard might run out of juice.

Because of the advanced solar tech, this keyboard might have a higher price tag upfront which could be a stretch for many.

We all know the frustration of a single key breaking on a keyboard and having to throw the whole thing away. Logitech is fighting this waste by making this keyboard easy to repair. If a key wears out or a part breaks you can open it up and replace just that piece yourself.

This means fewer broken keyboards piling up at home or in our environment. Instead of spending $50 on a new keyboard every year you might just spend $5 to replace a part. It’s a smarter investment for the long run.

Even if it’s designed to be simple, not everyone is comfortable taking their gadgets apart.

The biggest question for us in Zimbabwe is that will the replacement parts be easy to find in Harare or on popular online stores? If not, the main benefit is lost.

The keyboard is also made from recycled plastics, showing that Logitech is serious about sustainability. By choosing this you’re not just buying a tool but you’re supporting a greener way of making tech.

Using recycled materials helps conserve our natural resources and reduces pollution.

On top of all its smart features, the keyboard is designed to be comfortable for those long hours of typing, whether you’re working from home, in the office and so on.

A comfortable keyboard can reduce wrist pain and help you work for longer without strain, which is a win for everyone.

It might take a day or two to get used to the feel if you’re coming from a different keyboard. Also, the initial cost might be higher than a basic model.

Logitech’s new keyboard is a sign of where technology is heading smarter, more sustainable and more mindful of our real-world challenges.

For Zimbabweans battling power cuts and a tough economic climate, a device that cuts down on battery costs and can be fixed instead of replaced it’s a practical solution.

While the price and availability of parts are real concerns, the potential is huge. If you’re looking to make your workspace more resilient and make a choice that’s kinder to your wallet and the environment this keyboard is definitely worth a look. It’s time to work smarter not harder.
