KYALAMI, SOUTH AFRICA – Zim GBC News is investigating serious allegations of rape and abuse of power against a Zimbabwean national operating a Bed and Breakfast in Midrand, South Africa.
HERBERT MUKAYI CHADEHUMBE, the owner of Care on Location Spa in Kyalami, is accused of sexually assaulting a female employee, identified only as ‘Gracious’ to protect her identity, in the early hours of July 20, 2025.
According to a firsthand account shared with Zim GBC News, the victim, whose immigration status is legal under a valid passport, was allegedly attacked by Chadehumbe, a man aged over 50. The suspect initially admitted to the crime but has since altered his statement, claiming the encounter was consensual as he was in a relationship with Gracious.
In an emotional written testimony, the victim vehemently denied any relationship with her employer.
“I did [not] ask [for] any of these… and I don’t want any of these. AND I HAVE NEVER DATED YOU. STOP SPREADING LIES,” she wrote.
The victim detailed the trauma of the alleged assault, questioning her safety and condemning the abuse of power.
“Where in South Africa can a woman be safe? We are indeed living in a wicked world where the men who are supposed to protect women are the ones who are destroying women’s lives,” her statement reads.
She described a profound betrayal of trust, highlighting her vulnerability as an employee.
“Imagine not being safe at work, where you get the bread to feed your kids, because of a man who abuses his power and wealth… a man who doesn’t respect and value any woman, not even his wife and family.”
Seemingly, CHADEHUMBE’s family resides on the premises.
Addressing her alleged attacker directly, she questioned his morality:
“HERBERT MUKAYI CHADEHUMBE… has got the nerve to rape a woman that (who) is almost [the same] age as your daughter. Where is your dignity, humanity, and consciousness?”
The victim recalled pleading with Chadehumbe during the incident, stating,
“I begged you to stop. I pleaded. I said, ‘No!’ I wept. None of this mattered to you; you only cared about yourself.”
Gracious further alleged that Chadehumbe engaged in a pattern of inappropriate behavior, which she states had been tolerated by other female employees until the alleged rape occurred. She listed several incidents:
- Forcing himself on her: “You forced me to have sex with you.”
- Invading personal space: “You came to our room countless times, even as early as 5 am.”
- Inappropriate physical contact: “You made it a normal behavior to tap ladies’ bums.”
- Unprofessional conduct: “Seeing you at the office with the blinds closed in broad daylight during working hours.”
- Attempting to buy silence: “Giving me your old dollars (notes) that I didn’t even use.”
She explained her initial silence, stating,
“I kept quiet about all these not because I’m stupid or interested in you. I was giving you a chance to change your behavior.”
Following the alleged rape, she claims Chadehumbe asked what he could do to make amends. Her response was:
“…all I want is for you to tell people and ask for forgiveness from all the ladies you have raped. I have done my part, and guess what? I’m the only one [speaking out].”
Contacted for comment, Herbert Chadehumbe first requested for a police report on the allegations leveled against him stating,
“Please share the police report associated with these allegations. Thank you.”
Later he sent another message stating that he did not have a story to respond to, his message was accompanied by a low key threat against this publication.
“I do not have any story for you. I do however want to warn you against slandering and/or dragging my name into disrepute.”
This is a developing story. In the second part of this investigation, Zim GBC News will reveal what transpired after the alleged rape was reported.
