Three young members of the Roman Catholic Church have died in a horrific road accident along the Mazowe-Centenary road.
The victims were returning from a sacred music competition when the collision occurred.
The fatal accident happened last night near the 38-kilometre peg when a Mazda Demio, carrying the group, collided head-on with a Toyota Dyna. According to police reports, the driver of the Demio allegedly encroached into the oncoming lane, leading to the devastating impact.
The deceased have been identified as Elton Nhundu (28), Nomatter Bhuruwayo (23), and Tinotenda Magarangoma (38), all from Harare. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Seven other passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Mvurwi, Concession, and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The Zimbabwe Catholic Association for Sacred Music (ZICASAM), under which the youths were participating, issued a heartfelt circular expressing its profound grief. The group was returning from the Archdiocese of Harare competitions held at Trojan Mine in Bindura.
In a statement, ZICASAM extended its “deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families and the entire Catholic community.
“May the Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, grant eternal rest and peace to Elton, Nomatter, and Tinotenda,” the statement read.
“May they find joy in the heavenly chorus, singing praises to the Lord alongside the angels, for they were servants of music and praise in their earthly journey.”
The association also offered prayers for the injured, stating,
“May they receive comfort, swift recovery, and restoration to their daily lives and service.”
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Catholic community in Harare and beyond, as members mourn the loss of dedicated young servants of sacred music.
