Bulawayo- A 61 year old man from Nkulumane 12 has been arrested after he was allegedly found cultivating dagga plants and stashing loose dagga in his bedroom.
Lovemore Pangiso was arrested on 11 September 2025 following a raid by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) Drugs and Narcotics unit in Bulawayo, upon a tip-off from the public.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP), a search of Pangiso’s residence led to the recovery of 19 sachets of loose dagga hidden between his bed mattress and the base.
“Further searches in the yard revealed six well-nurtured dagga plants each measuring about 20 centimetres growing in his garden”, said Deputy Press and Public Relations Officer, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu.
Pangiso has since been charged with unlawful cultivation of dagga as defined in Section 156 of the Criminal Law(Codification and Reform) Act.
Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid dealing in dangerous drugs, warning that those caught will face the full wrath of the law.
This case highlights:
•Ongoing Drug Issues which underscores that drug cultivation and possession remain a concern for the public.
•Need for Awareness as it points to a continued need for public education on the dangers and illegality of drug cultivation and use.
•Health and Safety Concerns because storing drugs in homes poses risks to family members, especially children, and raises health and fire safety concerns.
