Tendai Biti’s house was ambushed by four unknown assailants armed with machetes, midnight yesterday.
The house, in Glen Lorne Harare, is resident to Biti’s mother who was not harmed during the incident.
Biti is the Vice President for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) the party that emerged from the ashes of MDC-Alliance.
Vice President Tendai Biti’s security guard was attacked in the midst of what seems like a political attack.
Biti’s aide Emmanuel Zellers Gumbo confirmed the event;
“At around 12 midnight today (Thursday), Zanu-PF thugs stormed Hon. Tendai Biti’s home where his mother stays. The gang had machetes, axes and a gun. One of the security guards Kind Tsanganyuka manning the premises was severly injured, he is currently receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital.”
Gumbo further narrated that the gang escaped after a cry out for help by the security personnel and “Gogo Biti”.
“They then issued death threats on Hon. Biti’s life thereafter,” continued Gumbo.
Biti’s party CCC shared a video of the guard narrating the incident.
The former Finance Minister in Government of National Unity (GNU), Biti added,
“Its politics, its not robbery. There are only two houses in that street and next to my house is an upmarket guest lodge. Common sense would tell you that criminals would likely target the lodge instead of my house.”
“They savagely beat the security guard, leaving him to die. He sustained deep cuts on the head and arms.”
In November last year, Tendai Biti is alleged to have been kidnapped.
At the time around 11PM at Biti’s house, attackers were said to have fired gunshots.
Five armed men suspected to be state security agents allegedly assaulted and dragged Biti into an unidentified white ISUZU twin cab which then drove off at a very high speed.
However, it was later established that the news was fake as Biti was said to be safe.
However, it was again said that two Central Intelligence Organisation agents were trailing Biti.
Ever since the formation of the then united MDC party led by the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, ZANU-PF party has had a run for their money.
And even after the state machinery had assisted Chamisa nemesis, Douglas Mwonzora, to wrestle the MDC-Alliance from Chamisa, the ZANU-PF was still unsettled.
The emergence of CCC led by Chamisa and Biti has raffled ZANU-PF up to a point that it’s supporters are in custody over skimmishes that happened at the CCC rally in Kwekwe this past Sunday.
Unconfirmed reports state that there are death threats on CCC leadership.
