Bulawayo– A miraculous escape unfolded on Parirenyatwa Street and 12th Avenue this morning after a dramatic collision between a Toyota Hilux and a commuter taxi. The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:00 AM, resulted in no injuries despite significant vehicle damage.
The accident involved a white Toyota Hilux and a white Toyota Pote taxi that was carrying a father and his young daughter. According to initial reports, the collision was set in motion when a vehicle in front of the taxi abruptly braked. This caused the taxi to stop suddenly, and the Hilux, following behind, was unable to brake in time, resulting in a rear-end impact.
Witnesses at the scene described a loud crashing sound that echoed along the busy street between Coghlan Primary School and Elendon Court. The force of the impact left both vehicles with substantial damage.
Despite the severity of the crash, all parties involved escaped physical harm. The taxi driver promptly helped his passengers exit the vehicle. Both the father and his daughter, though visibly shaken, were relieved to find themselves unscathed. The driver of the Hilux was also unharmed.
The Hilux driver was uncooperative in providing details about circumstances surrounding the accident.
Notably, emergency services had not arrived on the scene by 11:40 AM. Zimbabwe Republic Police are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident and were taking notes from the involved parties and eyewitnesses to assist the ongoing investigation.
This fortunate outcome serves as a critical reminder to all motorists of the importance of road safety, particularly maintaining a safe following distance to prevent such incidents.
