The future is bright for Kudzai Chapepa, a teen sensation tennis player, groomed at GAP Sports Consultancy under Thesley Mufunda.
At 13 years of age Chapepa has claimed various silverware in her young tennis career. She has traveled to different countries such as South Africa and Botswana raising through the ranks of the tennis ladder
Last year January Chapepa won in the Gauteng Wilson Grand Prix in Pretoria and the MP KPM Academy in Middleburg, Mpumalanga in February and Growth Point Free State Super 8 tournament in Bloemfontein, after beating South African Abigayel Vosloo 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 in the final.
In the past five years Kudzai Chapepa has proved her mantle as a risingto be one of the best in the country and in the region.
In 2017 she claimed the 2017 Toyota Centre Botswana Junior Open Tournament (U-10) which took place Gaborone before winning a gold medal in 2017 Gauteng East Junior Open (U-12, Gold Division) held in Benoni, South Africa.
Back to our home soil Chapepa has scooped many tournaments which include Bulawayo Open, Midlands Open, Harare Open and Masvingo Open.
Recently Chapepa had her biggest win in the Under-18 category, which she began competing in last year.
Chapepa saw off the challenge of South African Line Greyling 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 earlier this month to book a spot in the last 16. Line is ranked 880 in the world.
Kudzai Chapepa’s coach Mufunda commented on Chapepa’s progress.
Mufunda said “This was the biggest win of her career in this division. For this competition the goal was to at least make the second round to give her confidence as this was the first ITF tournament of the year. For us this competition was also a preparation for the Africa Junior Championships Regionals in Harare later this month.”

Football family mourns the death of a former Dynamos Youth player Donald Malajila who was shot dead by robbers in Cape Town in South Africa on Saturday.
He was 29.
Donald was a brother to the former Warriors player Cuthbert Malajila. According to a source Donald Malajila left home on Saturday and he never returned home.
A close friend to the late footballer whose name was not revealed confirmed the death of Malajila with Soccer 24.
He said “Donny left home on Saturday but never returned. We started looking for him the next day, we saw his car parked on the edge of the road. It was locked but he wasn’t in it.”
“We then made a report to the police. On Monday, we were told his body had been found, we went to the nearby mortuary and it was there. He had no form of identification on him, but we managed to identify his body” he added.
A few days ago, the former Warriors defender Charles Yohane was shot dead in Soweto in South Africa by armed carjackers.
