HARARE – An infant has tragically passed away after suffering a sudden medical emergency at a Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) referees’ training seminar, the association confirmed on Wednesday.
The child’s mother, a participant at the seminar, had brought her two children to the event.
Immediate assistance was rendered, but the infant could not be saved.
In a statement, ZIFA expressed its profound sadness and confirmed that the matter has been handed over to the authorities.
“The case has since been referred to the Zimbabwe Republic Police for investigation,” the association stated.
ZIFA further committed to full cooperation and support, saying,
“ZIFA is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and is extending support to the bereaved mother during this extremely difficult time.”
The football governing body has requested privacy for the grieving family, adding that any further updates will be communicated through its official channels.
