Get ready for a sonic journey like no other! Harare’s vibrant jazz scene is set to be electrified this September as a world-class ensemble of musicians converges on Zimbabwe for a groundbreaking cultural project that will headline the prestigious Zimbabwe Jazz Festival.

Dubbed the Frank Salis Experience – The Zambezi Sessions, this initiative is far more than a simple tour. It’s a two-week deep dive into musical collaboration, uniting five virtuosos from across the globe: Swiss Hammond organ master Frank Salis, American trombonist Alex Wasily, Italian drummer (and local resident) Max Covini, Zambian guitar prodigy Mr. Chanx, and the sublime vocal talents of Zimbabwe’s own Theresa Muteta.

This powerhouse group will embark on a cultural residency, weaving their diverse influences into a unique musical tapestry through concerts, intimate workshops, and community engagements across Zimbabwe and Zambia.

For the artists, it’s a chance to explore new creative frontiers.

“When you bring together rhythms from Europe, melodies from America, and the deep, soulful roots of African jazz, magic happens,” said Salis, the project’s leader.

“We’re not just playing songs; we’re building a new conversation.”

The project’s core mission is to nurture the next generation.

Upcoming musicians in Harare and Bulawayo will get a rare opportunity for direct mentorship and exposure to international standards during the workshop sessions.

Theresa Muteta, representing Zimbabwe on this global stage, echoed the sentiment of unity.

“Music is our universal language. This is a powerful moment to show how our local sounds can connect and create something beautiful with voices from around the world. It’s an honour to share our stage and our culture.”

Fanny Gauthier, Director of Alliance Française Harare, a key partner, perfectly captured the spirit of the endeavour:

“The Zambezi Sessions is a testament to the power of collaboration. This project is more than just a musical tour; it is an opportunity to create a shared experience, celebrate our differences, and connect through the rhythms of jazz.”

Catch this unmissable highlight of the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival as these masters of jazz create history, one note at a time.
