Former Football Star Alouis Bunjira Involved in Fatal Rusape Crash

RUSAPE, Zimbabwe – Two people have died and three others sustained injuries following a head-on collision on the Rusape-Nyanga Road Saturday morning involving a vehicle driven by former Caps United and Zimbabwe national team footballer, Alouis Bunjira.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the fatal accident occurred near the 8-kilometer peg around 10 a.m. on August 16, 2025. According to a police statement, an Isuzu pickup truck carrying three passengers attempted to overtake a bus directly into the path of Bunjira’s oncoming BMW.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 8 km peg along Rusape-Nyanga Road today (16/08/25) at around 1000 hours,” a police spokesperson stated.

“Two people died, while three others were injured, after an Isuzu pickup truck, which had three passengers on board, tried to overtake a bus while there was an oncoming BMW vehicle. The BMW vehicle was being driven by Alouis Bunjira with one passenger on board. The vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the death of two passengers from the Isuzu vehicle.”

The two fatalities were passengers in the Isuzu pickup. The injured parties, including survivors from both vehicles, were rushed to Rusape General Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Bunjira, a revered figure in Zimbabwean football for his time with Caps United and the Warriors, was driving the BMW. Details on the condition of Bunjira and his passenger, or the surviving occupant of the Isuzu, were not immediately released.
