BULAWAYO Police in Bulawayo have confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of Junior Moyo (34), following a violent altercation at a local bar last weekend.

Peace Nyathi, of Binis, Nyamandlovu, was arrested at his workplace on Tuesday, August 13th. He is accused of attacking Moyo, of Kensington, Bulawayo, alongside an accomplice known only as “Bheki,” who remains at large.

The incident occurred around 7:45 PM on Saturday, August 10th, at Kensington Bar. According to police, Moyo, Nyathi, and Bheki were drinking beer together when an argument erupted.

“It is alleged that during this altercation, one of the accused persons struck the now deceased with an unknown object on the forehead, resulting in a cut,” stated Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Bulawayo Provincial Press and Public Relations Officer.

Following the assault, Moyo returned home. The next day, Sunday,I August 11th, he reported the attack to the police.

“The complainant proceeded to file a report of assault. He was duly advised to obtain a medical report and treatment from United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH),” Inspector Msebele confirmed.

Moyo received treatment at UBH but was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for further management. He reportedly opted not to go to Mpilo at that time.

Tragically, his condition deteriorated rapidly on Monday, August 12th. His relatives rushed him to Mpilo Central Hospital.

“He died upon admission at the casualty ward,” Inspector Msebele reported.

The death transformed the initial assault case into a murder investigation. Police launched a raid on Tuesday, leading to Nyathi’s arrest. The search for Bheki continues.

Inspector Msebele issued a stern warning to the public in light of the incident:

“We urge members of the public to solve their disputes amicably and avoid the use of violence, especially when under the influence of alcohol. This tragic loss of life underscores the devastating consequences that can arise from a single moment of aggression.”

Nyathi is expected to appear in court soon to face murder charges. Police investigations are ongoing.
