HARARE – Mashonaland Central police have launched a manhunt for Assistant Inspector Mandizvidza, one of their own, who allegedly stole a marked police Ford Ranger from the Police General Headquarters (PGHQ).
An urgent internal memo dated August 13, obtained by ZimLive, alerted all stations in Mazowe district to “mount roadblocks and patrols” to intercept the officer and the vehicle (Registration ZRP 033).
“The vehicle is stolen at PGHQ by A/Insp Mandizvidza and is believed to be in Mashonaland Central province,” stated the memo from Mazowe District police command.
“If located, arrest and detain for CID Bindura.”
Police sources expressed bewilderment at the incident, noting:
“It’s highly unusual for a serving assistant inspector to vanish with state property. We are treating this as a serious breach of trust and protocol.”
The memo did not clarify how Mandizvidza, a mid-ranking officer, allegedly orchestrated the theft from the tightly secured headquarters.
Authorities confirm the nationwide alert remains active as investigations continue.
