The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has launched its official selection strategy for the U17 Boys National Team, ahead of the COSAFA U17 Boys Championship set to take place in Zimbabwe from 11 to 20 September 2025.
To ensure thorough talent identification, ZIFA has appointed a panel of experienced coaches. Thulani Sibanda, Norman Edward Taruvinga, Backlyfield Chivenga, and Jatson Maposa are tasked with leading a nationwide assessment tour.
This initiative is aimed at identifying the most promising young players to represent the nation.
The talent identification programme will run from 18 to 20 August 2025, with players assessed on their technical skills, tactical awareness, physical readiness, and mental strength.
ZIFA stated that only those who meet the required standards across these areas will be selected.
This strategy is part of a wider commitment by ZIFA to develop strong, competitive national teams through transparent and merit-based processes.
The association is also collaborating with football academies, schools, and provincial structures to ensure wide coverage and equal opportunities for young talent across the country.
With Zimbabwe hosting this year’s tournament, the initiative presents a valuable opportunity for the country to re-establish its youth football credentials on the regional stage.
The selected U17 players will not only compete at COSAFA but will also be part of a broader pathway leading to higher levels of national representation in the future.
