Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – A groundbreaking stadium project is underway in Kwekwe, with Chahwanda Stadium poised to become a game-changer in Zimbabwean football.
The state-of-the-art 15,000-seater facility boasts an array of innovative features, including 24 en-suite rooms for team accommodation, a VIP lounge, and 12 retail shops.
According to stadium owner Shepherd Chahwanda, the accommodation will be open to visiting teams at affordable prices.
“We are building a facility that will cater to the needs of football teams, providing them with comfortable accommodation and world-class amenities,” Chahwanda said.
The stadium’s unique design includes 52 entrances, ensuring easy access and a stampede-free atmosphere. Additional amenities include a presidential suite, a clinic for emergencies, and a Zifa house. Bucket seat installation is also progressing well throughout the facility.
While the stadium is primarily designed for football, plans are underway to adapt it for rugby as well. Chahwanda Stadium is set to raise the bar for football stadia in Zimbabwe, following in the footsteps of other notable facilities like Mandava Stadium, Ngoni Stadium, and Baobab Stadium.
In a separate development, a multimillion-dollar tourist resort is taking shape in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province. MCM Estates’ 100-hectare project will feature conference facilities, an amusement park, and a wildlife sanctuary, with scenic views of the Ruya River.
“We are bringing a wildlife resort to Mt Darwin, we are also bringing conferencing facilities there, we are also bringing a very big theme park… as well as quite a scaled amount of holiday accommodation,” said Takunda Mujuru, group chief operating officer of MCM Estates.
The resort is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth.
“The downstream impact that the project will have on Mt Darwin, on Zimbabwe is massive, talk of employment, other businesses opening in the area just because of what we want to do,” Mujuru added.
