In a remarkable journey marked by passion and perseverance, 32-year-old designer Ntokozo ‘Marcus’ Ngwenya has turned his childhood dreams from Entumbane into a thriving international fashion brand. His label, Kasi Combo, is making bold waves in Zimbabwe’s streetwear scene and reaching customers across continents.
Ngwenya’s vibrant and expressive clothing line is quickly becoming a cultural statement. Known for its eye-catching cartoon illustrations and youthful energy, Kasi Combo features stylized figures in relaxed poses, often adorned with gold chains and urban flair. These designs symbolize self-confidence and hustle culture, resonating with a generation proud of its roots and fearless in expression.
Speaking about his brand’s essence, Ngwenya said, “Kasi Combo reflects the everyday swagger and ambition of Zimbabwean youth. For me, every thread tells a story, and every design challenges conformity.”
His mix of bold-colored hoodies and tees in hues like red, yellow, pink, and grey embodies creativity and authenticity.
From Humble Beginnings to Entrepreneurial Ambition
Launched in August 2017, Kasi Combo emerged from Ngwenya’s creative vision as a multitalented entrepreneur who blends music and fashion. Originally from Entumbane, Ngwenya relocated to South Africa in 2019, a move that set the stage for his ambitious entrepreneurial journey and now he’s back in Zimbabwe
“This is more than just a brand – it’s a family legacy,” Ngwenya shared, highlighting the collaborative dynamic with his brother, Mthandazo Ngwenya, a fellow designer behind Black Manner.
Together, they have developed a unique approach to design that fuels the brand’s innovative spirit.
Expanding Horizons: From Local Passion to International Reach
What began as a local fashion hustle in Entumbane has quickly transformed into an international movement. Marcus’ creative behind Kasi Combo, says the response has been overwhelming with orders now coming from as far as Cyprus, the UK, Ireland, and South Africa.
“From Entumbane to places we don’t even have visas for Cyprus, UK, Ireland, SA people place orders,” said Marcus.
“So I’ve decided to push it to the limit because I see a lot of potential in it.”
The brand’s unique streetwear aesthetic, featuring bold illustrations and culturally rooted design, has struck a chord beyond borders.
Kasi Combo: A Multifaceted Creative Venture
Looking ahead, Ngwenya is expanding Kasi Combo into a multifaceted venture encompassing a brand, record label, and media company. He plans to launch annual events and return to music, demonstrating a vision that transcends traditional fashion boundaries.
Having previously collaborated with artists like Mzoe7, X Mile, and Ciar Diko, Ngwenya is preparing to release a new single before August, complete with original visuals. This underscores the interconnected nature of his creative pursuits.
X Mile, who has served as Kasi Combo’s brand ambassador since 2022, exemplifies the strategic partnerships driving the brand’s growth. Ngwenya also mentioned upcoming collaborations with key figures like Lurther Ngwenya, a videographer and event planner, signaling an exciting future for the brand.
