BULAWAYO – Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 30-year-old pedestrian along Intemba Road in Luveve on Sunday evening.
The body of the unidentified man was discovered lying on the left lane near Chigumira shops and Thembiso durawall at around 7 PM on July 27, 2025, according to Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, deputy Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson.
“The deceased was wearing a brown work suit bottom and a blue track jacket,” said Ndlovu.
“We suspect the driver, who is still at large, was travelling due north when they struck the pedestrian and fled the scene.”
Police observed faint skid marks on the left side of the road, indicating that the driver attempted to brake but failed to avoid the collision. The victim suffered fatal head injuries and died instantly. His body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
“We call on members of the public with any leads to report to the nearest police station to help us bring the responsible driver to justice,” Ndlovu added.
This latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over reckless driving and hit-and-run cases in Bulawayo. Police have reiterated the need for motorists to stop and assist accident victims, as fleeing the scene is a criminal offense.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses to track down the suspect vehicle.
