Heartless Armed Robbers Target Mourning Family in Soweto, Steal Over R150,000

Jabulani, Soweto, SOUTH AFRICA — In a brutal act that has shaken the community, four armed suspects stormed a grieving household during a funeral vigil on Wednesday evening, robbing traumatized mourners of cash, valuables, and even funeral groceries.

The incident occurred around 18:00 Hours as the family gathered to mourn a recent loss.

The assailants held attendees at gunpoint, seizing mobile phones and bank cards before forcing multiple family members to transfer over R150,000 via banking apps.

In a further violation, two suspects stole a white Range Rover Evoque (registration: ORI M) and used it to withdraw cash at Jabulani Mall.

Meanwhile, the remaining thieves assaulted mourners, ransacked the kitchen, and looted food and supplies intended for the funeral.

The stolen vehicle’s tracker was later recovered in the East Rand, but the family remains devastated.

“We were mourning our loved one—not preparing for war,” said a tearful relative who requested anonymity.

“They took everything: our money, our dignity, and the food meant to comfort us. We beg for justice.”

Authorities have condemned the attack and urge witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist to solve the crime.
