Harare – United Family International Church (UFIC) founder Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa has revealed that some followers abandoned him due to his public alignment with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, declaring he “doesn’t even care” about their departure.
During a recent church service, the charismatic preacher stated:
“I have people that probably used to follow me, that stopped following me because they saw that I was aligned to the President. They don’t have the church at heart – they are not my children.”
Makandiwa, known for his prosperity gospel teachings, argued that Zimbabwe would be worse off without Mnangagwa’s leadership, calling it the “current manifestation” of God’s will for the nation.
The prophet criticized those opposing the ZANU-PF leader:
“Some people hate Mnangagwa because they don’t have access to other versions of Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans complain due to their blindness – they should have taken advantage of this current manifestation.”
His comments come amid ongoing economic challenges and political tensions in Zimbabwe, where religious leaders’ political affiliations often draw public scrutiny.
Social media reactions have been divided:
- Supporters applaud his “bold truth-telling”
- Critics accuse him of “mixing religion with partisan politics”
- Analysts note growing trend of clergy-political alliances
Religious scholar Dr. Tinashe Gumbo commented:
“When spiritual leaders openly endorse politicians, it inevitably affects their congregational dynamics and public perception.”
