Bulawayo – A 27-year-old security guard employed at JP Garage has been arrested for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs following a police operation on Monday, 8 July.
Admire Magadzike was apprehended after detectives, acting on a tip-off, searched the garage located between Masotsha Avenue and Connaught Avenue along Joshua Mqabuko Street. Upon arrival, officers found Magadzike seated inside the premises. A search uncovered 22 sachets of dagga, weighing a total of 82 grams, hidden inside an unused silver electric jug.
When questioned, Magadzike failed to produce any permits or licenses authorizing possession of the drugs. The recovered substances have an estimated street value of ZIG $2,706.
Residents expressed dismay over the incident, with one local stating,
“It’s alarming that someone entrusted with our safety could be involved in such activities. We expect better from those in such positions.”
Another resident lamented,
“It’s disheartening to see young people entangled in drug-related crimes. More must be done to guide our youth away from such destructive paths.”
As investigations continue, calls for increased drug awareness and preventive measures grow louder. The state remains the complainant in the case, with Magadzike facing serious charges that could carry significant legal consequences.
The arrest has reignited concerns over drug abuse in Bulawayo, prompting calls for stronger community and law enforcement interventions.
