Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Sadza have arrested two men who were illegally in position of Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) transformers.
The report was confirmed by the Police in a statement.
The report states that on the second of this month the received a tip off concerning theft of ZESA electrical materials which they reacted to swiftly.
The police mounted a roadblock at Sadza Growth Point around 2am which paid off as they managed to arrest the duo who were using a Nissan NP300 hard body single cab vehicle to ferry their loot.
Ignitions Kudakwashe Nyabonda (28) and Trymore Mhondiwa (25) who were arrested for theft of ZESA transformers at Chimowa Primary and Secondary Schools.
The police said that one of the suspects only identified as Tendai Chida fled from the scene.
The Police were able to recover a transformer copper coils, two catapults, one black electric shocker torch, a black scale, one brown okapi knife and vehicle registration number plates ABW5154.
In an almost similar case on Thursday Police in Bulawayo arrested a security guard, Micah Mbeu (47) for theft of 8kgs copper windings at ZESA Steeldale Substation along Khami Road where he was manning the premises.
Copper and transformer theft is rife in Zimbabwe as these have a ready black market. Some suburbs like Northvale and Kingsdale Suburbs in Bulawayo are always plunged in darkness because of electrical cable theft.
