The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has released grade seven results for the year 2021.

The results can be accessed Online.

Heads of schools are advised to collect results from their respective ZIMSEC Regional offices on Monday.

The Press Statement from the ZIMSEC Chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje confirms that a total number of 325 573 candidates sat for exams last year. There was a decrease of 0.6%. from 2020.

Prof. Mwenje attributed the decrease in the number of learners who sat for the exams to economic hardships largely induced by Covid-19 pandemic and other economic factors.

Some learners are said to have dropped out from school as a result of pregnancies and early marriages.

From the total number of learners who sat for last year’s exams 51.31% were females while 48.68% were males.

The pass rate for female candidates was 44.55% compared to 37.48 % for male candidates. Higher pass rates were recorded in indigenous languages.

Unlike other years, Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALAs) were introduced this time around which unfortunately were not positively received by some candidates.

CALA is a project performed by a pupil for each subject they sit for in an examination. The pupil is supposed to complete a task given by a teacher, for instance a pupil will be tasked to research on child marriages from their communities and make written presentation on that particular subject.

The CALA carries some marks that contribute 30% marks to the final exam and is syllabus based.

The 2021 national pass rate stands at 41.13% which is an increase of 4.02% compared to 37.11% pass rate which was recorded in the year 2020.

The passrate has declined and is below 50% considering that, previously Zimbabwe education used to be high flying.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said that the 2022 form one students are expected to begin lessons on the 14th of February which is the second week after schools have opened.

According to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu and her ministry, parents who wish to send their children to boarding schools are advised to upload grade 7 results on the Ministry’s electronic platform www.emap.co.zw as from Monday 7 February 2022. The enrolment for from 1s who wish to be borders will be closed on the 11th of February 2022. Parents are encouraged to make use of the 5 days registration period.

Form 1s who wish to be day scholars are to apply from the 7th to the 11th of February as well.

Min. Ndlovu advises all schools to stick to the stipulated school calendar and not deviate from it.
