‘When America sneezes, the world catches a cold’.

This is an ideom that circulated during Cold War. It had been observed that when United States of America’s economy took a tumble, the whole world was affected.

This is due to the fact that the world’s trade is measured with the American currency.

A similar conjecture has developed in the political field of Zimbabwe.

The mention of Nelson Chamisa’s name seems to grind the country to a halt.

Following a call from its ardent followers Chamisa dropped the name Movement for Democratic Change and pronounced a new one, with a new symbolic colour and a new party symbol.

Following this announcement a ‘sea of yellow’ has enveloped the country, and this has caused mayhem in every corner. The majority of citizens have appreciated the pronouncements by the Chamisa fanction and this is not being taken kindly by several main stream nemesis.

Chamisa announced that his party will now be called Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) with an index finger pointing to the sky and the party will be synonymous mainly with the colour yellow.

Zimbabweans embraced the change and took to social media platforms and splashed the colour yellow, posting ripe yellow bananas mostly and any other objects and images of themselves in yellow apparel.

The trend soon spread on social media platforms and transformed to physicality. A hashtag “yellow Friday” was formulated.

Like a cyclone the ‘yellow sea’ has attracted violence.

Political violence has emerged.

During the weekend, a video of a police officer beating up a citizen in a yellow t-shirt was circulated.

In the video, the person in yellow was bashed on the head by policemen who later ran off.

Last week, it was reported that five CCC activists were arrested for alleged public nuisance. However, what emerged in the arrest was the significant yellow t-shirts.

One of the arrested, Emmanuel Gumbo wrote on Twitter complaining that their “only crime was putting on yellow t-shirts which the police alleged it was disorderly conduct and later changed to obstruction.”

Gumbo further said they were subjected to brutal torture and degrading human conditions.

However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) explained that the trio was arrested for blocking a pavement “as they were chanting party slogans, so the police intervened and others ran away while some were arrested.”

Police Spokesperson Inspector Paul Nyathi further stated that the arrest had nothing to do with regalia.

Yellow seems to be attracting some violent and brutal acts against CCC supporters after Chamisa dumped the red colour that was associated with the former MDC.

Even the ruling party Zanu-PF seems to have been affected by Chamisa’s sneeze, perhaps due to the response of the public.

In some news from online New Zimbabwe, it is claimed that some Zanu-PF elements wrote that the colour yellow belongs to the revolutionary party.

With that, LEAD president Linda Masarira took to Twitter to say that colour does not belong to Zanu-PF therefore Zanu-PF cannot claim yellow as theirs, noting that its members have used green too among others.

In a Zanu-PF meeting in Chitungwiza Harare, the party allegedly raised some pointers of banning Chamisa from using the yellow colour.

It’s acting youth league secretary Tendai Chirau stated that the colour yellow was a symbol of the country’s National resources interms of mineral wealth, hence Zanu-PF chose the colour yellow as one of its colours to signify the war of liberation.

The views after this led to some citizens stating,
“Zanu-PF cannot fight the citizens.”

Wither Zimbabwe.
