Croco Motors, Other Firms to Face MPs Over Undelivered Goods

Political Correspondent
HARARE – Zimbabwe’s Parliament will this week begin grilling companies accused of failing to deliver goods and services despite receiving payments in both Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) and U.S. dollars, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) announced.

Among the firms set to be summoned is Croco Motors, which was paid over US$3.6 million in a single day last month for the supply of operational vehicles and staff buses—deliveries that allegedly remain incomplete.

PAC chairperson Charlton Hwende confirmed that the committee had received a Treasury report listing several companies under scrutiny.

“Public funds must be protected, and accountability must prevail,” Hwende said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“There will be no tolerance for mismanagement of taxpayer money.”

Companies Under Scrutiny

  • Croco Motors: Received US$830,473 on July 5, 2024, for operational vehicles and an additional US$2,866,473.36 on the same day for staff buses.
  • Rainbow Towers: Paid US$112,500 in December 2004 for supplying snacks to the central bank.
  • Nicoz Diamond Insurance: Received US$283,867.45 for insuring government vehicles and ICT equipment.
  • Amtec Motors: Also flagged for undelivered services.

Next Steps

Hwende said representatives of the implicated companies would be called before the committee starting Friday to explain the delays or non-deliveries.

“We expect full cooperation from these firms,” he said.

“If payments were made, the state must receive what it paid for—no excuses.”

The probe comes amid heightened scrutiny over government procurement processes, with lawmakers vowing to recover funds if wrongdoing is confirmed.
