Bulawayo – In a significant step against drug abuse, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested two men in Lobengula, Bulawayo, for unlawful possession and distribution of narcotics.

The operation followed a tip-off from concerned residents about drug-related activities in the area.

Raids and Arrests

On 9 June 2025, at around 11:00 AM, police raided House Number 58205/1, Mabutweni, after receiving reports that it had become a hub for drug abuse. Four male adults were found inside, openly consuming illegal substances.

“Bulawayo is being used as a smoking haven, and someone is also dealing in dangerous drugs,” said Inspector Nomalanga Musebele of the ZRP.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to regularly smoking dagga (marijuana), crystal meth, and broncleer —a codeine-based cough syrup often abused as a recreational drug. They revealed that their supplier was Deon Dube, a resident of Old Lobengula.

Dealer Apprehended

Acting on this information, police proceeded to House Number 564212/2, Old Lobengula, where they arrested Anthony Mashavane, a suspected drug dealer.

A search yielded:

  • Five sachets of crystal meth
  • Two 200ml bottles of broncleer
  • Four sachets of dagga

Mashavane then led officers to Deon Dube, the alleged main supplier, who was also taken into custody.

Community Collaboration Praised

Inspector Musebele commended residents for their vigilance, stating:

“We appreciate the level of public participation in the fight against drugs. It heartens us to see the community working with the police to combat this menace.”

She emphasized that drug abuse “hinders development and creates opportunities for criminals to thrive,” urging continued cooperation to eradicate the problem.

A Call for Persistence

Quoting Galatians 6:9, Inspector Musebele encouraged the public:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

The arrests mark a crucial victory in Zimbabwe’s ongoing battle against substance abuse, with authorities calling for sustained efforts to dismantle drug networks.
